1 How would you rate your overall experience?

BOOKING.COM - Maryline French - 8 Nov 2022 - - - Stunning location but poor service and facilities and passable food! - - - " :) - Location is stunning though very remote :( - Most things sadly.We had paid and booked for a sea view bungalow for our wedding anniversary but were told on arrival that the room we had paid for was a river view bungalow.I had upgraded long before our stay from a river view to a sea view but Umngazi alledged they never received the upgrade from Booking.com...after a 6 hour drive to Umngazi this is not what we wanted to hear and the management only offered ,after much debate, to give us a honeymoon suite for one night only meaning we would have had to move our stuff again the following morning to another bungalow when we were only staying for 2 nights anyway !We were very tired from the drive and just wanted to relax so we thought that was a totally not practical or an acceptable solution!Apart from that we found the food on offer to be our less favourite out of the various hotels and restaurants we have experienced during our 3 week tour of SA!We would rate is as just adequate considering the quality of the food you get overall in SA...There is no wifi nor tv in the rooms so if you happen to be there on a rainy day like we did there is very little to do.The shower is an outside one so while that might be great in the heat of summer... on a rather damp and cool day that wasnt so much fun!For all these reasons we would not recommend Umngazi as in our opinion and in comparison to other places ,we have stayed at they fall below par on most levels!The location is stunning but that's all! I’m sure Umngazi will reply by saying this was the fault of Booking.com but upon reading other reviews it seems other travellers didn’t get the room they paid for neither so beware!

Dear Maryline. As expressed at the time we are terribly sorry that we weren't informed of your upgrade. We did everything in our power to rectify the issue. We are in the business of offering guests an unforgettable experience from the time they make their booking personally with our reservations team right up to departure. Contrary to your statement your upgrade issue was certainly an isolated case. Our previous reviews are testimony to the wonderful holiday's that thousands of valued guests experience with us which we are immensely proud of. Umngazi offers an inclusive product with a large variety of delicious and healthy dishes on offer for all three meals a day as well as teas and tasty eats. You may prefer an ale carte restaurant. Being remote is one of the beauties that the stunning, pristine, peaceful and tranquil holiday experience Umngazi offers. We're sorry that you don't find this appealing. Umngazi offers a myriad of amazing outdoor activities that our guests revel in the beautiful surrounds and should the weather not play game we light fires and guests relax enjoying each other's company or reading a book, playing board games or catching up on their favourite television program in the bar or one of our lounges. We've never known anyone to be bored at Umngazi, there is always something to do. We trust that you enjoyed the rest of your travels in our beautiful country and wish you a safe trip home.
