Tucked away on the Wild Coast, in the heart of Pondoland, and encompassed by rocky coastline, indigenous forests, secluded coves and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, lies the award winning Umngazi Hotel & Spa. The thatch-roofed bungalows are situated amongst the indigenous gardens which provide the perfect setting for totally relaxed holiday. Weekly fly-in packages are available Friday to Friday from Virginia, Durban where you fly at 500 feet above sea level along the beautiful coastline – a wonderful way to start your holiday.

From the moment we stepped on the property the treatment we received was exceptional. The facilities and the food were top notch. We can’t thank everyone enough for a fantastic end to our SA vacation.

Umngazi was always a bucket list stay. Well we did it! Amazing location, friendly people, great food. The spa should be visited (do the couples massage with the bottle of bubbly included)

We have just left Umngazi and I would like to leave an honest feedback: The location is stunning!! We enjoyed the diverse food a lot and the spa was also fabulous! All the people around the restaurant, bar, spa and housekeeping were more than friendly, especially towards our children! The offered activities are great and we really enjoyed ourselves!
Now comes the BUT: We just left the place with a bad feeling as the ladies at the reception didn’t give us a nice welcome nor a nice goodbye. When we arrived a mistake was made with our booking but they made me feel like it was my mistake (which it wasn’t)…And now when we just left the hotel, no one was interested if we had a good time etc. Our luggage was left at the room although I had asked for assistance…Here I have to say that we have had much much friendlier receptionists during our trip through South Africa. So unfortunately we are not leaving with a completely positive feeling today.

Amazing stay!!!
Umngazi is a beautiful resort situated close to Port St John’s Transkei. My wife & I had an amazing stay in the Ntabeni Suite. Stunning views, untouched scenery and very private. The room was one of the best we’ve stayed in. The staff are friendly, the bar and entertainment areas are great. Food was alright but everything else was excellent. It’s a remote part of the country & difficult to get to but so worth it. Will definitely come back again. We loved our stay!!!

Umngazi Hotel ansd Spa
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The views were stunning, the food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. There are, however, a few areas where the overall experience could be improved.
We had booked the Romantic Package, and upon check-in we found a gift and a bottle of champagne in our room addressed to “Gavin and Tanya.” We reported this to reception, and two days later the envelope was updated to “Peter and Sibongiseni” (both of my names). Unfortunately, we only opened the envelope after returning home and discovered that we had missed out on a R100 discount.
In addition, the spa staff did not enquire about the package we were on, which gave the impression that there was limited coordination between the reception and spa teams.
During our stay, the weather was very cold, and we found the room lacked adequate heating, as there was neither a heater nor air conditioning available.
Despite these issues, we had a wonderful stay and would gladly return. With a little more attention to detail and better integration between reception and the spa, the guest experience could be even better.
