Tucked away on the Wild Coast, in the heart of Pondoland, and encompassed by rocky coastline, indigenous forests, secluded coves and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, lies the award winning Umngazi Hotel & Spa. The thatch-roofed bungalows are situated amongst the indigenous gardens which provide the perfect setting for totally relaxed holiday. Weekly fly-in packages are available Friday to Friday from Virginia, Durban where you fly at 500 feet above sea level along the beautiful coastline – a wonderful way to start your holiday.

From the moment we stepped on the property the treatment we received was exceptional. The facilities and the food were top notch. We can’t thank everyone enough for a fantastic end to our SA vacation.

Umngazi was always a bucket list stay. Well we did it! Amazing location, friendly people, great food. The spa should be visited (do the couples massage with the bottle of bubbly included)

Our Marvellous May getaway
My husband and I were fortunate enough to book at Umngazi Hotel & Spa from the 18th to the 23rd of May this year. As it was our first time there, we weren’t sure of what to expect. However, I can now say with conviction that Umngazi will completely surpass any expectations you may have. The location is incredible. There is beauty as far as the eye can see. Our room was lovely and had everything we could have hoped for. The spa is a non-negotiable when visiting Umngazi! It was simply devine!! It was so magical that we booked again for the very next day. The food is beyond delicious. Everything we ate was outstanding! Furthermore, I would like to mention the hikes that are available. We were lucky enough to experience the Mngazana Mangrove hike, this was an unparalleled experience that will live on in our hearts.
The atmosphere at the hotel is charming. It’s as if the place has a soul of its own.
Lastly, I would like to mention the cows on the beach – this is something you have to witness to understanding it’s magnitude. We can’t wait to see them again.
Thank you Umngazi and staff for an incredible experience that I got to share alongside my husband.

I booked to stay for 2 nights and I arranged that I would arrive after 22:30 and got to the gate by 23:00. I hooted and no one answered, the phone numbers that are listed for after hours don’t work and I was left stranded at the gate the whole night.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me and for your understanding regarding the circumstances surrounding your arrival.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused by the delay at the gate. Our security camera footage shows that you arrived at approximately 00:53. As part of our security protocols, the gate is locked after hours.
As discussed, it is highly unusual for guests to arrive at this time of night, and our security team had assumed that you would no longer be arriving. They were therefore conducting routine patrols on the property when you reached the gate. We are, however, pleased that they were able to assist you and grant access so that you could check in for your two-night stay.
Once again, we apologise for the delay and any frustration it may have caused. We do have an after-hours emergency contact number available and encourage guests to make use of it should they encounter any difficulties upon arrival.
We trust that your business trip was both successful and productive, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

We spent a week at Umngazi recently for our honeymoon and absolutely loved every minute of it.
What a gem of a place. Beautiful views everywhere you look, and the whole experience feels incredibly luxurious. You feel completely spoiled from the moment you arrive, yet the atmosphere is still warm, relaxed, and welcoming. The staff were amazing! Friendly, attentive, and always happy to help.
The food was exceptional every single day and was something we looked forward to at every meal. We also loved how much there was to do, from fishing and scenic walks to taking the ferry across to the beach and enjoying the spa. The guided Sugarloaf Hike was a real highlight and well worth doing.
We also made good use of the heated pool, which quickly became one of our favourite spots.
Umngazi was the perfect honeymoon destination and offers such a special combination of luxury, relaxation, adventure, and genuine hospitality. We left feeling refreshed, spoiled, and already looking forward to coming back.

Umngazi exceeded all our expectations! We spent an amazing week at the resort relaxing and enjoying the beach and sunshine.
The food was exceptional with quality ingredients at every single meal. We were pleasantly surprised at how affordable the drinks and activities were, you never feel taken advantage of!
We also really enjoyed the sunset cruise (so much, in fact, that we went twice!). We stayed in one of the honeymoon rooms and can highly recommend the adults only wing and Emlonyeni pooldeck for couples traveling without children. We spent many hours in the (heated!) splash pool.
We had great weather but the indoor lounge areas with fireplaces would have been amazing had we had rain!
The spa was great! And all the resort staff were also really friendly and helpful.
Overall a wonderful experience and we’ll definitely be back!

Final day of Wild Coast Hike to the Umngazi Oasis
Lovely well appointed guest property with great food and welcoming hosts. Had a very nice stay, had laundry done overnight and also took the river cruise.
