Tucked away on the Wild Coast, in the heart of Pondoland, and encompassed by rocky coastline, indigenous forests, secluded coves and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, lies the award winning Umngazi Hotel & Spa. The thatch-roofed bungalows are situated amongst the indigenous gardens which provide the perfect setting for totally relaxed holiday. Weekly fly-in packages are available Friday to Friday from Virginia, Durban where you fly at 500 feet above sea level along the beautiful coastline – a wonderful way to start your holiday.

From the moment we stepped on the property the treatment we received was exceptional. The facilities and the food were top notch. We can’t thank everyone enough for a fantastic end to our SA vacation.

Umngazi was always a bucket list stay. Well we did it! Amazing location, friendly people, great food. The spa should be visited (do the couples massage with the bottle of bubbly included)

Beautiful resort, a true Gem and highly recommended
The food and service at Umngazi are amazing. Superb maintained resort. Very friendly people making your stay a relaxed and most enjoyable one. Sunset river cruise very special. Just a pity that you cannot walk to the beach as a result of the big storm damage of some time ago, but the “river shuttle boat” to the beach on the other side of the river is operated very professionally and convenient – it brings a different experience to your stay (positive)

Wow..wow…wow !!
Just a great place to chill, unwind, eat good food, enjoy raw nature. The setting is magnificent with stunning beaches a short ride across the river on a complimentary ferry that runs at your request.
Nice bar area vibe. Great food throughout the day with a wide varied offering. Fish feast on a Saturday, relaxed braai on a Sunday.
Excellent service.
The spa is highly recommended with some of the best treatment we have ever had at reasonable prices. Relaxing in a spa bath with my wife overlooking the river/beach was a special way to finish the spa sessions.
Rooms are clean and in keeping with the resort.
The hotel recommended Sun Shuttle Services from Umtata airport – they were very efficient.

A Perfect Family Getaway! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our stay at Umngazi Hotel and Spa was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the warm, friendly staff, the fantastic accommodation, and the breathtaking setting.
The food was an absolute highlight — we enjoyed exceptionally good meals every single day. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the variety and quality were outstanding. You can really taste the care and attention that goes into every dish.
The rooms were comfortable, beautifully maintained, and perfect for a relaxing stay. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is peaceful and welcoming — exactly what you want for a family holiday. There’s so much to do for both adults and kids, yet it also gives you space to unwind and just take in the beauty around you.
Everything was 100% — from the service to the amenities, we truly couldn’t fault a thing. Umngazi is a gem, and we’ll definitely be back. If you’re looking for the perfect mix of luxury, nature, and family-friendly charm, this is the place to be.

I didn’t want to leave.
My husband and I visited Umngazi from the 12th to the 14th of September 2025 to celebrate our 16 year wedding anniversary.
This was our 3rd visit to this piece of heaven on earth.
We had the best weekend, the staff were friendly,the Spa treatments were an out of this world experience. Thank you Seka and Xole. The room was beautiful and very clean and neat, I loved the outdoor shower and the the food was amazing, compliments to the chef and his amazing team.
Thank you Jakes for being so friendly and entertaining.
We will definitely be back soon.
